How to Fisch Astral Observatory Update
Vega, Battery Casings, telescope anomalies, and the cavern farm that paid until the livepatch.
Astral Observatory is the 22 August 2026 drop (version 1.98) that turns Fisch’s night sky into a system you can switch on. The observatory sits on The Laboratory, the oil-rig platform north of Roslit Bay, and the whole line runs through Astronomer Vega. Finish the telescope and you can fire Astral Anomalies that buff everyone on the online server. Skip Vega and you are just sightseeing on a platform.
If you only care about C$, jump to the cavern section and keep the money guide open. If you still need a rod that can actually land the casings, read rod progression first. New anglers should not start here: finish getting started and fishing basics so the catch bar is not the boss fight.
Start at the oil rig laboratory
Sail north of Roslit Bay toward Sunstone. The Laboratory is the oil rig in that gap, around GPS -1785, 130, -485. Dock at sea level, find the Shipwright, and climb the rope on the left of the docking bay. Face the climb correctly or you clip the upper deck and fall.
On the main platform, enter the laboratory building. Astronomer Vega is the quest giver for the observatory line. Dr. Crookspine is in a room to the right of the entrance and becomes relevant after you talk to Vega (Scavenger Rod work, reinforced batteries). Accept Vega’s first objective. The tracker should mention Battery Casings and lenses. If it does not, you spoke to the wrong NPC.
There is no extra unlock to walk into the observatory after 1.98. The gate is talking to Vega, not a key item.
Five Battery Casings on Sunstone Island
Do not fish around the rig hoping casings wash up. Travel to Sunstone Island and talk to Merlin. If you already turned in the required shards, choose the option that grants Mine Shaft / chasm access. Drop into the mine and fish the underground pool.
Casings are a catch, not a ground pickup. Community reports put the roll around 1 in 100 per catch, so this is a volume farm. Equip a rod with strong lure speed and a setup that finishes catches quickly. Toxin Burst and Scavenger-style kits get mentioned a lot because they raise how many rolls you take per minute, not because the casing is a named fish with a bait preference.
You need five casings for Vega’s opening hand-in. If Merlin still talks about shards instead of the chasm, you have not finished the Sunstone access chain. That is a progression gate, not a bug. Come back after you can enter the shaft, or you will waste an hour on the wrong water.
Hand the five casings to Vega. The rest of the line is issued in order: materials for Telescopic Lenses and Batteries from several map locations, then assembly at the observatory. Batteries are not a one-time quest item. Vega crafts them, each battery has a small number of uses (five on the base craft), and a depleted battery can be recharged with an Enchant Relic. Crookspine later describes a Reinforced Battery with more uses if you can feed him relics, scrap, a casing, and a mythical catch from anomaly pools.
Telescope, lenses, and Astral Anomalies
The telescope at The Laboratory is the payoff. Insert a lens, spend a battery charge, and you can trigger a temporary nighttime event even if the server is currently in daylight. Effects apply to everyone on the server, which is why you should not burn a battery the moment you craft one. Hold it until you actually intend to fish.
Five anomalies shipped with the update:
- Celestial Congregation
- Abyssal Alignment
- Evershifting Eclipse
- Meteoric Outburst
- Lunar Eclipse
Each one is a nighttime server event with a passive stat buff and space-themed mutations on fish caught while it is running. Abyssal Alignment is the one players quote for a fish-weight buff. Exact percentages move in livepatches, so read the in-game prompt when you insert the lens.
The update also added an Astral Observatory bestiary spread across hidden Astral Cavern pools (Boreal Pines, Everturn Forest, Northern Expedition, Abyssal Zenith / Mariana’s Veil, and related crevices). Secret catches such as Unstable Crystal, Singularity Control Unit, and Stellar Wiring live in those pools, often on Magnet bait. That is the content that turned the caverns into a money conversation.
Rods and the Comet companion
Four rods are tied to the drop in different ways: Scavenger Rod (Crookspine’s follow-up after Vega), Meteoric Rod, Rod of the Singularity, and Stellarwave Melody. They are not all sitting in one shop. Compare them on the rod tier list instead of buying the first glowing stick you see.
Comet is a living astral companion that roams near fallen stars. Feed it Stardust Candy to tame it. Once it sits on your head it grants a passive Astral Luck-style bonus that helps rare meteor and starfall rolls for the server. It is not required to finish Vega, but it is the mascot of the patch.
Redeem any still-working patch code on the codes page before you leave Moosewood. ShootingStars shipped with 1.98 and rotated out like most weekly strings. Do not sit on a new Saturday code while you farm casings.
Astral Cave money after the nerf
Players immediately treated the Astral Cavern pools as a C$ printer. Secret crystal-type catches plus anomaly mutations paid extremely well on launch weekend, then version 1.98.2.1 cut several of those sell values (Singularity Control Unit, Stabilizer Core, Stellar Wiring, Umbral Matrix, Unstable Crystal). Crystals inside the caverns can also be mined with a Pickaxe; they are player-sided and respawn on a long timer that ticks faster while you are in-game.
If the caverns still feel good on your rod, stay. If the new C$/kg looks average, switch. The money guide is the page that should hold the current farm, not this update article. This page tells you the caverns exist, that they were nerfed, and that Vega’s telescope is the unlock rather than the farm itself.
Hunt content such as the Goliath Siphonophore in Boreal Hollow is a fight, not a money loop. It can freeze your progress bar mid-reel. That is intended. Do not reset the server thinking the catch bugged.
What to do after Vega
- Keep a charged battery for nights you actually plan to grind.
- Fill the Astral bestiary only if you care about completion; it is six pools, not one dock.
- Check the Updates Hub for Skycrest and whatever Saturday follows 1.99.
- If Fischfest is still on your server, do not abandon Captain Conch mid-quest just because the sky got a telescope. Seasonal Sunshells expire; the observatory does not.
The oil rig is the start, Sunstone is the casing farm, and the caverns are an optional C$ detour. Talk to Vega, hand in five casings, and let the tracker pull you across the five lens locations. Everything else in 1.98 is optional flavour until that telescope works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, rods, and Saturday patches.
Where is Astronomer Vega in Fisch?
Inside The Laboratory on the oil rig north of Roslit Bay (around -1785, 130, -485). Climb the rope from the dock, enter the lab, and take the observatory quest.
How do I get five Battery Casings?
Unlock the Mine Shaft from Merlin on Sunstone Island, then fish the underground pool. Casings are rare catches, roughly one percent per cast. Hand five to Vega.
Is the Astral Cave still the best money spot?
It was a launch-week printer, then livepatches cut crystal sell values. Use the money guide for the current farm instead of assuming 1.98 prices.
Do Astral Anomalies affect the whole server?
Yes. Powering the telescope applies a nighttime buff to everyone online on that server. Save batteries for sessions where you will actually fish.
Which rods came with Astral Observatory?
Scavenger Rod, Meteoric Rod, Rod of the Singularity, and Stellarwave Melody, each from a different quest or location. Rank them on the rod tier list.
